April’s Seasonal Flowers – My favourite time of the year!

Along with March, April is definitely the best time of year for fresh cut stems.. The massive array of flowers available is amazing and if I were asked to pick my favourite time of the year it has to be now..

With just over 6 weeks to go until Summer, I still have a while left yet to enjoy the varieties available. Lilac, Viburnum and Tulips have to be my favourites at the moment that I seem to just keep aquiring in to the studio on a daily basis (it’s not my intention, I promise….) Although the price of Lilac isn’t something I love quite as much, it’s such a beautiful flower and it really is worth the price, it looks so fresh in bouquet and vase arrangements and can be sourced in White and funnily enough.. lilac. The massive range of varieties of Tulips available still amazes me! Although there are so many different Tulips I can get hold of, I have to say, a favourite is just the classic single headed white Tulip.

Bearing in mind that Spring flowers stem length tend to be fairly short, usually around 30cm, this does limit what you can do with floral designs, especially if you’re considering having Spring arrangements as centre pieces for a wedding.

If you are looking for ideas of what to do for centre pieces for your tables incorporating Spring flowers such as Tulips, Ranunculus, Hyacinths and Anemones then I would advise having an assortment of vases/pots/containers throughout the tables (whether it’s a round or rectangular table, this will still work) of different shapes, sizes and heights and filling each vase with a tight posy of a single flower variety and then another vase/pot with another variety. For example, if you are focusing on having all white and green flowers for your wedding, you would have one vase full of pure white tulips then a taller vase with a tight design of white Anemones in and so on and so forth. This looks really effective and it is something slightly more unusual that adds interest and texture to the tables and also prevents the issue that every bride/groom wants to avoid of an obstructing view to guests sat opposite on the table.

Another idea is to incorporate plant pots with seasonal plants in that can be planted after the wedding as a reminder of the day and you can watch them grow. Alternatively you could give the plants as gifts to guests or family members.

Tulips, Roses, Ranunculus, Lilac, Viburnum, Lisianthus, Anemones, Clematis, Delphinium, Lily, Agapanthus, Sweet Pea, Daffodils, Phlox, Alchemilla, Veronica,  Anthirrhinum, Freesia and Trachelium.

All of these flowers are available in a range of colours and are at their best throughout April. It is cost effective to opt for seasonal flowers for your wedding and it will also ensure that the quality of the flowers is at their best.
